It seems you tried to enter them as LAN addresses? This does not work. This is not true, it does have! See from page 77 of your manual. " My router does not have a section on firewalls" If you want to keep LPC disabled and want to use OpenDNS Home, then your rules to block port 53 outbound may work according to your user manual. You must disable OpenDNS Home in this case, because LPC and Home are incompatible. Please note, if you enable LPC (Live Parental Controls) on a Netgear router, then nobody can circumvent OpenDNS/LPC by changing their DNS addresses locally, and you do not need special firewall rules to block or redirect DNS traffic. " There is a helpful FAQ about how to stop."Ĭan you post a link to this FAQ, so that I can see what you're talking about? What does "Greg" mean in the subject/title of your thread? Would someone please help me 1) forward all DNS requests to the listed IPs (what are they?) or 2) enter both these alternative firewalls rules on Netgear DGND3700 non-genie interface so that the error is avoided. I think I have enabled one rule to Block TCP/UDP (starting/ending port 53) - all IP addresses (which I think is alternative rule 2) but am getting an error message when trying to setup alternative rule 1 - "the IP addresses 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220 are invalid" I am not at all sure of the steps required to "forward all DNS requests to the listed IPs" (have I done this already setting up router to use OpenDNS primary and secondary DNSs?). My router does not have a section on firewalls - the closest I can get is Content Filtering/Port Forwarding/ Port Triggering or Block Services features. The alternative is to create firewall rules to ALLOW and BLOCK certain or all IP addresses on Port 53. The article refers to the preferred method of forwarding all DNS requests of non-OpenDNS IPs to the listed IPs. There is a helpful FAQ about how to stop meddling teenagers (or anyone else) changing their DNS addresses locally and circumventing OpenDNS. I have a Netgear DGND3700 ADSL2+ wireless router using OpenDNS.
